Environment Canada has put a Special Air Quality Statement in effect for much of northwestern Ontario due to smoke from forest fires in the region.
According to Environment Canada, the smoke is causing or is expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.
The smoke is expected to be in the area starting on Thursday night and continuing into Friday Night.
As smoke levels increase, health risks increase.
The forecaster is advising that you limit time outdoors and consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.
Extended exposure to smoke can lead to mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough.
More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.
Residents aged 65 and older, those who are pregnant, infants, and young children, as well as those with chronic health conditions, are most likely to be impacted.
When indoors, keep windows and doors closed as much as possible.
The statement is in effect for the following: Kenora area, Dryden area, Fort Frances area, Thunder Bay area.
