$1.9 million in illegal drugs seized in Ontario drug bust

A major drug trafficking investigation in Ontario has led to the seizure of $1.9 million in illegal drugs.

As a result of the 16-month investigation, 25 people, many from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), are facing a total of 197 charges, while arrest warrants have been issued for three others.

Project Saturate got underway in January 2024.

The provincial police’s guns and gangs enforcement team and Sudbury’s police service led the investigation.

The investigation identified two street gangs based out of the GTA who were involved in allegedly trafficking illegal drugs into northern Ontario.

On May 8, officers executed six search warrants in Sudbury, Mississauga and Hamilton.

On May 29, 14 more searches were conducted in Sudbury, Mississauga, Richmond Hill, Pickering and Toronto.

In total, the following items were seized (the quantities are estimates):

  • Four firearms
  • 12 kg of suspected cocaine
  • 7.3 kg of suspected fentanyl
  • 164g of suspected methamphetamine
  • 2,448 oxycodone tablets
  • 1,010 suspected methamphetamine tablets
  • Other prescription medications
  • 8 kg of cannabis
  • Two prohibited devices
  • $259,000 in Canadian currency
  • $1,210 in US currency
  • 21 cell phones
  • Two laptops
  • Digital scales
  • One vehicle as offence-related property
  • One boat as proceeds of crime

The estimated street value of the drugs seized is more than $1.9 million.
