Ontario’s Northwest Region is currently tracking 23 wildfires, most of which are being held, under control, or observed.
Officials say the overall fire hazard remains low across much of the region, though moderate to high conditions persist in the Far North.
One new fire was confirmed on the evening of Saturday. Kenora 44 was located approximately 1.8 kilometres south of Umfreville Lake near the northeast arm of Goshawk Lake.
The fire was quickly extinguished at 0.1 hectares in size. No new fires were confirmed by early evening on Sunday.
Red Lake 12 continues to be a fire of concern, burning northeast of Sandy Lake and Deer Lake First Nations.
It has now been remapped at 194,127 hectares and remains not under control.
Crews are working across three divisions and are supported by 18 helicopters, including four heavy-lift aircraft.
Winds from the northeast helped limit fire activity on the eastern edge, while the western perimeter remains more active.
Rainfall was minimal, with Deer Lake receiving 4.6 mm and Sandy Lake recording 1.3 mm.
Sioux Lookout 18, located near Cat Lake First Nation, is also not under control and stands at 23,816 hectares.
Ten fire crews and five helicopters are assigned to the incident, supported by an incident management team.
Recent rainfall has reduced fire activity, but officials are monitoring for holdover lightning fires once conditions dry.
