It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Tonia Jessie Hunter. Tonia was gifted with the joys of being a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt during her life here on earth.

Tonia was an independent person. She obtained her grade 12 Education in Kenora. While Tonia resided in Wabaseemoong she was a volunteer for Wabaseemoong Health in various programs and projects.

She was predeceased by her Grandparents: William Cameron, Olive Cameron (nee Abraham), Bill Fraser Duck and Agnes Fraser-Duck (nee) Henry, Father Johnny Fraser-Henry. Brother William Charles (Reuban), Jeremy, Sister Juliette, Olivia and Lisa Land. Uncles: Gilbert Hunter, Adolphus Cameron, Billy Henry, Barney Henry, Tommy Henry, Aunties: Jessie Jamieson, Florence Hunter, Twins (Camerons), Yolanda Rose Hunter, Bonnie Peters, Doreen Hunter, Marie, Dorthy Henry, Tina Henry and her lifelong partner Chad McDonald.

Tonia is survived by her children Brandi Amber and Brendan, Granddaughter Cedar, Her mother Margaret, Brother’s Tereance (Pinocchio), Patrick Kent, Sister Allison Ritch, Aunties: Gloria (Gus), Angela, Cindy, Annette, Caroline (Roger), Edith (Ivan) Uncles Danny, Mauricio Sr., Albert Buttons (Karyn). Her many loving cousins and extended family.

Through this time of sorrow and grief, our family wants to take this time to extend our gratitude to everybody Wabaseemoong Chief and Council, Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority, Kenora Chiefs Advisory, Mizhakiiwetung Memorial School and to Deb and Cory at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre for your tremendous support. We’d also like to extend our gratitude to the Doctor’s and Nurse’s at the Lake of the Woods Hospital, Jessie McDonald, Nona Fisher, Rose Kelly, Pastor Frank Kowal, Shirley Petawanquab, and to everybody who has shown their support and love during these times. Your support and love are greatly appreciated.

Wake services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 starting @ 12:00pm at the WCWA Building in Whitedog, Ontario. Funeral Services will be conducted by Nathaniel Daeshin Chae on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11:00am at the WCWA Building with interment to follow in Whitedog First Nation.
