Voting is underway on what Canada Post has said is its final offer to postal workers.
The Canadian Industrial Relations Board directed the vote after receiving a request from federal Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hadju.
Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers had negotiated off and on for nearly eighteen months, amidst a brief strike last November and threats of another workplace stoppage in May.
The union wants its members to reject the deal.
CUPW alleges the vote is an attempt to divide workers and weaken the union’s bargaining power.
The proposal offer includes wage increases totalling over 13%, new part-time positions and changes to the delivery model that include weekend service.
Full-time employees would receive $1,000 signing bonus, while all others would get $500.
Canada Post says it reflects the company’s situation, while helping to rebuild its parcel delivery business.
The vote will continue until August 1st.
