Integrity Commissioner releases another report on councillor Ritch Noel

An Integrity Commissioner’s report on the comments of Dryden councillor Ritch Noel has found two contraventions of the Code of Conduct.

There were several complaints about a Facebook post Noel made about an Eagle Lake resident, who had passed away.

But Noel says he won’t apologize for his comments and disagrees with the Integrity Commissioners report.

“I don’t agree with your finding, and I invite council to do what you wish…let’s continue to go after councillor Noel.  Let’s do that.  That’s all I have to say.”

Councillor Bryan Tardiff says he’s disappointed the city has to keep paying for these legal reports, which are costing the city thousands of dollars.

In the end, Dryden council agreed to suspend Noel’s council pay for 90 days, ask for an apology to the Eagle Lake First Nation, state again Noel’s comments don’t reflect those of council and to take a refresher course on the Code of Conduct especially as it deals with the use of social media.

Councillor Michelle Price suggests that the 90-day suspension of Noel’s council pay will help offset the cost of the Integrity Commissioner’s report.
