The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association calls them crucial investments to the region’s forest industry.
The federal government announced this week that it would provide $1.2 billion to help forest companies expand into new markets, add jobs and diversify their product lines.
NOMA president, Rick Dumas, says it is funding that will help mills in northwestern Ontario.
“NOMA welcomes this decisive federal action to support the softwood lumber industry and the communities that depend on it,” states Dumas in a release.
“These measures recognize the vital role of forestry in northwestern Ontario and across Canada, helping our sector adapt to ongoing trade challenges, protect local jobs, and create opportunities for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.”
NOMA also supports the commitment to Indigenous-led forestry business development, saying it will further strengthen the local supply chains.
