Forest fires in western Canada have been identified as the source of the smoke that is drifting into parts of northwestern Ontario.
Air quality advisories are in place for an area between the Ontario-Manitoba border east to Ignace and from Red Lake to the Ontario-Minnesota border.
Environment Canada says it expects the smoke to dissipate from the area by this evening.
In the meantime, it suggests that people consider reducing their time outdoors and reschedule or reduce outdoor sports, activities, and events.
People most likely to be impacted include seniors aged 65 and older, pregnant women, infants and young children, anyone with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors.
