Gaagegiizhigok izhinikaazo Nam’e odoodeman. Barbara Ann Wapioke of Iskatewizaagegan #39 passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 71 at the Wiigwaas Elder and Senior Care on July 20, 2025.
Barbara cherished spending time with her family and had a special bond with all the young ones. She loved being on the lake, harvesting, travelling to powwows, and visiting the casino. She enjoyed thrifting for treasures and gathering with family for dinners.
Barbara rejoins her loved ones; parents Nelson and Elma (nee Redsky) Wapioke; her brothers Joseph and Nelson Wapioke; her sisters Betty Ann and Deanna; her nieces, Susie and Tina; her grandson, Cody; and great granddaughter Avalee.
The legacy of her loving spirit, passion for creating memories by celebrating birthdays and special holidays will continue through her family; her son Manny Wapioke; her nieces Veronica Wapioke (Randy), Shirley, Tia (Clay), Carmen (Percy); Nephew Brennan (Veronica); Grandchildren, Fawn, Maynard, Jordan, Rayne, Couradge,(Laura), Realle, Ryver, (Rayne), Dylan, Ryzon, Talin, Stephan, Christian, Trinity, Zachery, Angel, Clay Jr, Ocean, and Keralynn; Great Grandchildren, Darryl, Kairn, Jerome (Rachel), Jett, Jayde, Stetson, Dean and Ada. She had many cousins, nieces, and nephews who she loved very much.
The family would like to thank the home care nurses from Iskatewizaaagegan, Dr. Bowerman, Dr. Sawatzky, the staff at Wiigwaas, and special acknowledgment to the family that were by her side in her final days.
Traditional Wake Services will begin on Wednesday July 23, 2025 starting at 3:00pm at the Iskatewizaagegan First Nation Community Centre. A Traditional Funeral Service will be on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 10:00am with a traditional burial to follow.
