Michael Wojtowicz
1957 – 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael John Wojtowicz, 67, on July 23, 2025, at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

Michael was born on November 28, 1957, in Kenora. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1975 and later attended college in Sudbury, Ontario, where he earned a diploma in Media Arts. He began his career with the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board and later became an integral part of The Big Graphic, where he worked until his retirement in 2023. He was dedicated to his job and took on the challenge of acquiring new knowledge and skills, adapting to the ever-changing world of computers and graphics.

Michael had many passions in life, including reading, movies, astronomy, photography, woodworking, and cooking. He was a skilled handyman who could paint, do electrical work, lay flooring and tile, and tackle a variety of projects with ease. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a telescope over the course of two years, meticulously sanding the glass to perfection.

Michael had a deep love for animals and often delighted in watching chipmunks, squirrels, birds, and deer, as well as caring for his beloved dogs and cats.

He enjoyed going to yard sales, working on puzzles, and sharing a daily tradition of watching Jeopardy!. A favourite pastime was going to the movies with his sons and sharing conversations about books and films they enjoyed together. Michael especially treasured time with his grandchildren, Danika and Jett—building forts in the living room, playing games inside and out in the yard, making them waffles for breakfast, and cheering them on in their various sports activities.

Michael is survived by his beloved partner, Peggy; his sons, Jamie (Krista) and Scott, and their mother, Susie; and his two cherished grandchildren, Danika and Jett. He is also survived by Peggy’s children, Crystal Taylor (Dean) and Brendan Taylor (Kim) and their children.

He will be lovingly remembered by his two sisters, Rosalind (Les) Livingston, and Sue (Glen) Gummeson; his nieces and nephews Michelle (Dustin), Blair (Sam), Julia (Devon), Joey, Jodi, and Jenny (Dustin); cousins Krissy, Mark (Deb), Richard (Tiffany), and Peter (Andrea); as well as many great-nieces and nephews and close friends.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary Wojtowicz, and his aunt and uncle, Nancy and Siegfried Scheibler.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to:

● The doctors and staff at Keewatin Medical Clinic—Drs. Whiley, Olson, Wiebe, and Wehner
