In addition to worrying about US tariffs, the Chinese have also put on tariff on Canadian canola.
Manitoba premier Wab Kinew says the agriculture industry is very important to his province and they do everything they can to help.
“We just continue to be there to support,” Kinew said while he was on the Wauzhushk Onigum Nation Tuesday.
“We’ve added some measures of supports to the agriculture industry…business risk management, among other financing tools.”
Kinew points out that it’s not just the United States anymore we have to worry about in terms of tariffs.
“We’re going to continue to work with the federal government just to make sure, that while so many people are focused about the Trump tariffs, we also have to keep in mind these Chinese tariffs that are really hitting our agriculture industry and so we just got to be there to stand up for our farmers, our producers and our exporters.”
China is placing a 75.8 percent tariff on Canadian Canola.
