The provincial government has announced that Ontario Public Service employees will be returning to work from an office full-time next year.
Minister Caroline Mulroney, who is also the president of the Treasury Board, made the announcement on Thursday.
“As the government delivers on our plan to protect Ontario, we will continue to drive public service excellence for the people of Ontario,” explained Mulroney. “Effective January 5, 2026, the Ontario Public Service and its provincial agencies, boards and commission public bodies will return to the office full-time.”
The change is coming to ensure provincial employment aligns with private workplace standards in Ontario.
“Based on the nature of their work, over half of the Ontario Public Service are already required to attend the workplace full time,” added Mulroney.
“Starting on October 20, 2025, employees who have been attending the workplace for a minimum of three days per week will increase their attendance to four days per week as part of a gradual transition period to the full-time in-office standard effective January 5, 2026.”
The COVID-19 pandemic led to the expansion of remote work arrangements across the province.
