City planning a skating loop

There will be another public skating option available in the City of Kenora.

General manager of Recreation and Culture Andrew Smith says new skating loop is being developed behind the Moncrief Construction Sports Center.

“It’s going to be right on the new parking lot that we built so people can go in (the Rec. Center), warm up, come back out…utilize our facility all at the same time,” Smith told council in his quarterly report.

“It’s flat now and they are a good base, so we don’t have to worry about the water going everywhere.”

Smith add they’ll start flooding when the weather gets cold enough.

“We’re going to use the Zamboni and we’ll see how it goes.  We hope the weather changes a little bit  so we can get started on it.”

Smith says they came up with the skating loop because there were complaints there was a lack of public skating options in the city.
