AA teams open play at Tournament of Champions

Double AA teams from across northwestern Ontario have gathered in Thunder Bay for the annual Tournament of Champions.

In action on Thursday in the U-11 division, the Fort Frances Canadians scored a 4-2 win over the West End Bruins in their opener.

They have games on Friday against the Neebing Hawks and Elks 82s.

The Dryden Paperkings lost their first game 5-4 to the Hawks.

They will take the Westfort Rangers and Norwest Stars on Friday.

The Kenora Thistles were edged 5-4 by the Elks 82s in their first game.

The Thistles face the West End Bruins and the Hawks on Friday.

The Red Lake Rockets were shut out 4-0 in their opener by the Stars.

The Rockets will play against the Elks and Rangers on Friday.

The Sioux Lookout junior Bombers lost 4-1 to Westfort in their tournament opener.

The Bombers play the Stars and the Bruins on Friday.

In the U13 category, the Fort Frances Canadians won 1-0 in overtime against the Norwest Stars.

They will take on the Westfort Rangers and Current River Comets on Friday.

The Dryden Paperkings lost 9-5 to the Neebing Hawks.

Dryden will play the Elks 82s and the Red Lake Rockets on Friday.

The Rockets lost 11-1 in their opener to the Rangers.

Along with its matchup with Dryden, Red Lake will also go up against the Knights of Columbus Sabres.

Dryden and Red Lake were also playing their first games in the U15 division.

Scores were not immediately posted.

In the U18 division, the Fort Frances Canadians lost 5-0 in their first games.

They have games on Friday against Current River Comets and Volunteer Pool Bearcats.
