The Directors of Education for all 10 of northwestern Ontario’s school boards have agreed to cancel all high school sporting events this fall. This includes girls’ basketball, boys’ volleyball, golf and football seasons.
“We appreciate this is disappointing news for many, but when it is safe to do so, we are committed to a return to competition when it is safe to do so once again,” wrote NorWOSSA members, in a prepared release.
Directors met late last week to look at their options for the fall athletics season. They decided to echo the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association’s move to cancel all sports for the fall.
However, a decision on the winter and spring seasons will be made at a later date. OFSAA will also come to a decision on their winter and spring seasons in the coming months.
NorWOSSA schools include Beaver Brae, St. Thomas Aquinas, Dryden High School, Fort Frances High School, Red Lake District High School, Rainy River High School, Sioux North, Pelican Falls First Nation High School, Ignace High School and Atikokan High School.
