Allison was born on July 3rd, 1921 in North Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She met Lewis McKay when he moved to the East Coast to play hockey for the North Sydney Monarchs, marrying in 1941. They returned to Lew’s hometown of Kenora Ontario where they lived until their passing.

Allison was a homemaker who took pride decorating their various homes. She enjoyed summers spent on McKay Island in Andrew Bay and subsequently cottaging at Beauty Bay amongst the golfing community. She enjoyed travelling back to North Sydney every five years for family reunions.
