Alzheimer Society Receives Funding For Support Services

The Alzheimer Society of Kenora-Rainy River is getting funding to hire an extra employee.

Rosanna Tomashowski is the executive director and says they will be increasing their help for client support services.

“It reduces our waitlist and they are busy…the client services coordinator is a position that supports all the clients…persons with dementia, Alzheimer’s and the caregiver,” Tomashowski said after receiving the grant.

Tomashowski adds that the $45,000 comes as the province tries to reduce the number of patients using Alternate Level of Care beds in hospitals.

“Even though we take them in as clients, there are other community support services that we reach out and we refer to them to make sure the client is the center-focus of our mission and that they get the support services they need in the community.”

She says the funding helps their clients find the right care in the right place, easing pressure on Emergency Department visits.
