A Wisconsin man has passed away after a boat capsized on Clay Lake near Dryden over the weekend.

The OPP says on Saturday around 5 p.m., officers in Dryden were notified of a boat capsizing with two individuals on board who had been fishing near rapids.

One of the individuals was able to hang onto the boat and call for help and was later rescued by employees of a nearby lodge.

The OPP and their Joint Rescue Coordination Centre began a helicopter search for the other man. Officers later located 71-year-old David Nitzel of Rhineland, Wisconsin, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The OPP is reminding residents that the vast majority of victims killed in boating accidents each year were not wearing a life-jacket or personal flotation device, and capsized vessels and falling over the top are the top contributing factors in boating deaths every year.
