Dryden’s Tyler Earl was honoured by the SIJHL being named the Most Improved Player for the 2021-22 season. The league says that after only recording two points in his first 11 games, he quickly found his stride and finished the season with 12 goals and 17 assists in 45 games. He is one of nine Ice Dogs players to record over 20 points in the season, and the only rookie first-year player to accomplish this. 

It's a busy week for NorWOSSA court sports action. The Dryden Eagles Senior Girls Volleyball team took on Beaver Brae in the gold medal match. The Broncos gave the Eagles a run for their money, but ultimately Dryden came out winning 3 sets to 2. This is the last year for high school volleyball for Charlie Compton, Jaydyn Johnston, Alanna Boucha, Katie Buchanan, Daisy Wagenaar, Miranda Ott, and Tessa Penner. The Junor Girls made it to the final beating Sioux North in 3 straight sets, but fell 3-2 to the Muskies, earning silver.

The Beaver Brae Bronco Junior Boys will take on the Sioux North Warriors in semi-final action today at noon. The winner will advance to the NorWOSSA final to take on the Fort Frances Muskies. 

All St. Thomas Aquinas court sports teams earned a bye into the finals and will see action today. Both the Senior and Junior Girls Volleyball teams will be taking on the Rainy River Owls in their respective gold medal matches. Senior Boys Basketball will see the Ignace Falcons and the Junior Boys will welcome Atikokan. 

Kenora's Special Olympic Bowlers were back in action this week. Leading the ranks was Sterling Scheibler with 203. Tied in second were Scott Malmo and Shane Legros at 168. MVP for the night was Alisabeth Paddison with 97. 

Johnny Gaudreau scored twice as the Calgary Flames held on for a 3-2 win over the Kings in N-H-L action in Los Angeles.

Auston Matthews had a hat trick to tie the franchise single-season record for goals with 54, and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2.

Kansas posted the biggest comeback in the history of the N-C-double-A men's basketball final in a 72-69 victory over North Carolina at the Superdome in New Orleans.
