The Lake of the Woods Arts Community will be showcasing local and regional artists to the northwestern Ontario community virtually over the next number of months, after the cancellation of Arts Fest 2020.

Arts Fest was originally set to take place at Harbourfest 2020, which was also cancelled due to COVID-19. Organizers then revised their application to the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation to bring the event to residents’ homes through Zoom.

Online workshops, demonstrations and performances will be offered for free through the new Arts at Home program, which begins on September 30, where Irene McCuaig will present ‘Notan with watercolours.’

“As we watched one event after another being cancelled, we knew the arts community was going to feel the pinch,” said LOWAC Chair, Leanne Fournier. “We had an overwhelming response that showed us that we were onto something that our local artists wanted to be a part of.”

Nine presentations are on the schedule at this time. They include visual, literacy, vocal and performing arts sessions, as well as a Christmas-themed radio play. The 2021 lineup is still being finalized.
