Asia Dawn Rayne (Lafferty) Tom
August 4, 1999 to Friday, April 14, 2023
Mother of Isaac Faye-Rose Shisheesh. Daughter of Lori Tom and the late James Lafferty.
Born in Kenora, Asia is forever loved by a large, caring family who helped raise her - the Morrison’s, Tom’s, Skead’s, Lafferty’s and Delormes, of Kenora, Longbow Lake, Wauzhushk Onigum, Iskatewizaagegan and Naotkamegwanning First Nations, the Northwest Territories and British Columbia.
More recently she lived in Thunder Bay with her son ‘Baby Boy’ Isaac, to be close to her mom Lori and her young siblings, who she loved absolutely. Isaac’s grandmother Jennifer Shisheesh was a great support to Asia these past few years.
Some of Asia’s happiest memories were of days with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, especially her great-grandmother “Nanny” Ada Morrison, who would give her anything she wanted and made her first jingle dress; her grandmother Diana Lafferty who she followed around at the Strecker farm; special times at Longbow Lake with great-grandparents ‘Papa Joe’ and ‘Kokum Sam’; Kokum Ava, Grandma Sas (Alma) and Koobij Dorothy Indian who blessed her with her Anishinaabe spirit name.
In the past few month’s Asia Dawn was making plans to visit and reconnect with her Lafferty-Delorme family in the Northwest Territories and BC.
Waabishaanakwadook (White Cloud Woman) leaves behind her son Isaac; her mother Lori Tom; siblings Tai, Fenix, Doris, and Nadaya; grandparents Ava Morrison-McKay, Conrad Tom, Louise Delorme, Clayton Brinkman and Cathy Deacon; great grandmothers Mary Alice Smith, Gloria Hyde and Marilyn White; uncles, aunts and their families: Joshua Tom (Ashlee) - Aurora; Karlina Tom - Creedin, Rizzo, Dalena; Bryce Tom; Noria (Deacon) Lafferty; Ernestine Delorme; William Delorme and their families; great aunts, uncles and cousins: Karen Cowley (Oscar) - Rebecca Fair, Ryan Morrison; Carla Mandamin (John) - Josephine, Leila, Desirae, Leroy Jr, Kiizhabapiness Paypompee; Beverly Williamson - Ketura and Marcus MacArthur; Jason Williamson (Vanessa) - Tianna and Jenna Williamson, Zoey Tawiyaka, Kelsie Williamson; David Crow (Nika) - Jakson and Karlee (Sage); Eleanor Crow; Lee Ann Hyde (Scott) - Aaliyah, Aayden; Rachel Hyde; Willow Fiddler - Avery (Mitchell); Jesse Fiddler (Angie) - Shawn, Mya, Keenan; Danielle Morrison (Blake) - Evie and Joseph; Edith MacPherson; Herbert Lafferty; Larry Jones; Freda Elief; Lloyd Jones; Paul Jones; Louise Avery; JoAnne Dickinson; Leni Maksirmow (John); Paul and Ursula Godde; the Skead-Seymour’s: Patricia/Lulu (Jean) Pelletier, Louise Seymour (Ernesto) Centena & Gabby, Patrick (Sandra) Seymour, Lionel, Stella, and their extended families.

Her grandfather Matthew Lafferty died April 15, 2023 following a lengthy illness, a day after Asia’s passing.
We will always remember Asia’s open heart and mind. She was a private, sensitive, and generous soul, constantly exploring the mysteries of the universe – plants, crystals, music, meditation – “If it makes you happy, it doesn’t have to make sense to others.” For her birthday in 2020 she asked people to donate to ‘The Ocean Cleanup’ fund that designs and develops advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.
As a teenager she often said she didn’t want to grow up because ‘adulting’ would be hard and she wasn’t ready for it. But as a young mother, she talked about knowing how important it was to grow up, to be a good parent and self-sufficient.
She leaves in our trust and care her dreams of ‘mino bimaadiziwin’, a good life for her son and family.
Traditional ceremonies will be presided over by Ron Indian-Mandamin at Washagamis Bay Community Hall. Wake is Friday, April 21, 2023 at 7 pm., funeral Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10 am. Burial is at Lake of the Woods Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jason Williamson, David Crow, Keaton Sas, Shayse Sas, Treston Seymour, Ryan Morrison, Marcus McArthur, and Tristan Fair.
“We like to pretend we can have a person forever. We are fallible creatures who grow and change, and eventually cease to exist.” – Katrina Craig (posted by Asia on her Facebook page November 2020)
