Carl William Holm
June 9, 1942 – June 24, 2023
It’s With heavy hearts we announce the passing Carl William Holm on June 24th, at the age of 81 after a short battle with cancer.
Billy was born January 9th, 1942 to parents Carl and Violet in Kenora Ontario. Both of whom came from Sweden at different times.
After graduating high school, Billy went to Toronto and became a master carpenter. He then started his own businesses, Lake of the Woods freight service and Holm construction. He also delivered cord wood to Boise cascade via log tows on Lake of the woods that were over a mile long consisting of over two thousand cords. Bill was the last person to do that in North American history. He also enjoyed building his own wooden boats to work on the lake with.
He was also a boat and motor mechanic and very skilled welder. He enjoyed country music and was skilled at playing the guitar and singing some good tunes. He was a charmer and melted many hearts. Bill had his pilot’s license and captain’s license. You could say there was nothing he couldn’t do.
He is and always will be a legend of Lake of the Woods. He knew every good fishing spot on the lake. Teaching his sons everything he knew about the place he loved most. He enjoyed heading out to camp in Andrew Bay where he was always building, puttering and tinkering. Always making sure he’d take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful place where he was lucky to live in.
He made many wonderful memories out there with his granddaughters Angie and Jenny. Taking them every year and spending as much time as he could with them.
In 1991, Billy met Lisa and he became a stepfather to Adam (Denise) Brough and she became momma Lisa to Billy’s 4 sons, Willy (Avis), Frank, Carl (Crystal), Tommy, grandfather to Angela (Robbie) Cavanagh, Jennifer Holm, Chelsey Kilar and Taylor Kilar, step-grandfather to Julia and Hunter Brough, great grandfather to Jayce, Charlie, Lexie Cavanagh, Braden Kilar and Sylar Sarison.
He was predeceased by sisters June Bishop and Charlotte Beacham any many niece and nephews.
We will miss his gentle nature and life advice.
He will always hold a special place in all our hearts.
His family would like to thank Brian Campbell and all the amazing home care workers the great hospitality and doctors!! Special thanks to nurse practitioner mike Reid that took the extra mile for Mr. Bill and made his last couple weeks amazing for everyone!
