Charities that help children and families in need in the Kenora area are invited to apply for grants from the Lake of the Woods Regional community foundation. In past couple of years, executive director Darlene McGillivary says they've helped pre-schools, scout troops and resource centres.
"Grants during this time have varied from a few hundred dollars all the way up to as much as $10,000. So it's a wide range of granting dollars that are available."
Over the last seven years, the foundation's offered more than $850,000 to local charities.
"So, over the past couple of years, we've provided funding to such programs as the Canada pre-natal program. All sorts of charities in our area are doing great work for the Moffat Family Fund."
Over the last couple of years, grants offered by the Moffatt Family through the community foundation have varied from a few hundred dollars to ten grand.
Since 2005, the foundation's given out more than $850,000 in grants.
