City and MNR come to firefighting agreement

The City of Kenora has come to an agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources for fighting wild fires.

There has been an agreement since 2000 with the MNR, and the new deal with run until the end of March of 2028.

Under the deal, Kenora Fire and Emergency Services will be responsible for any fire that’s within 200 meters of a roadway and is south of the by-pass.

MNR firefighters would be responsible for the forests in the municipality or other wildland vegetation.

The contract is for $5,445.65 this year, with a two percent increase every year.
