Look for some new banners on light poles in downtown Kenora in time for winter.
Economic Development officer for the City of Kenora Megan Dokuchie says they are reaching out to local youth to help design the new banners.
"We're encouraging youth aged 18 and under to submit a winter-themed design," explains Dokuchie.
"So this could be what you enjoy about winter or your favorite winter activity. It's pretty open."
Dokuchie adds they are hoping for a good uptake and would like to install them by the middle of November.
"We're hoping it will be popular and we receive a lot of submissions. But we can, I think, produce up to 30 different banner designs. That would be the maximum."
Funding for the project is from the Municipal Accommodation Tax and Harbourfront BIZ.
Interested youth can take part in the art project by:
- Downloading the project template
- Picking up a print copy of the template at The Muse, City Hall, Lake of the woods Discovery Centre, Kenora Public Library and Keewatin Public Library
- Attending a free drop-in banner workshop at The Muse: Douglas Family Art Centre on Saturdays in September (9th, 16th, and 23rd) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Designs must be submitted to the city as of September 25th.
