A new report on the state of Kenora’s Rural Roads includes five possible options.
The city’s Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen says they are recommending an option which could cost in the range of $6,000,000.
“The reason that option 5 has been chosen is because it’s an option that provides some attention to all of the north roads,” Breen told council recently.
“It does give a higher level of attention to the collector roads like the Anderson Branch, or the Essex Road, or the East Mellick Road. Council has the opportunity to make a decision in what action they would like see take for further improvements to north roads in the community.”
The option will fix up roads that are in very poor to poor condition into an average condition.
The report says it could cost about $740,000 for yearly maintenance of these roads.
The report conducted by Stantec says over 50 percent of the rural roads in the City of Kenora are considered in either poor or very poor condition.
The engineering firm looked at the condition of 117 kilometers of roads in the city.
