The Kenora U18 AAA Thistles (0-7-0) jump on the bus and head west this weekend for a series against the Brandon Wheat Kings (8-0-1).

Game one goes tomorrow night (October 23, 2021) at the Brandon Community Sportsplex and will be a rematch of the Thistles opening weekend.

The Wheat Kings took both games on opening weekend by scores of 9-0, and 6-2.

“Couple revenge games anyways we’ve already seen them once this year and know what their all about for the most part,” said Thistles head coach Scott Parsons.

Going into this weekend the Thistles are looking for their first win of this young season as they have started the season with seven straight losses.

Parsons wants the team focus on the good they’ve had this year instead of the bad going into this weekend.

“We got to stick to our game and try on focus on the good habits in practice and getting rid of the bad ones. We try and maintain our systems the best we can and hopefully get rid of some of the mental errors and try our best,” explained Parsons.

Early on in the season the Thistles have gotten point production from Jett Mintenko, Nickolas Fagnilli, and Brady Butvin who leads the team in points through seven games.

In their previous game Parsons switched up the lines by adding Brandon Gustafson on the same line as Mintenko and added Emerson Evans with Fagnilli. Parsons said he liked the changes as they resulted in goals for both lines.

Kenora is coming off an 8-3 loss to the hands of the Eastman Selects.

Brandon is still undefeated in regulation coming off two consecutive games that ended in a shootout. The most recent game a 6-5 shootout win against the Pembina Valley Hawks.

Tomorrow nights game will be at 7:30 p.m. followed by Sundays matinee game at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed on HockeyTV.
