The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says they’ve received notification of a COVID-19 exposure impacting King George Public School, but no classes have been closed at this time.
Staff are working with the Northwestern Health Unit on next steps, including calling potential contacts who will be given instructions by staff to minimize any potential risks. Staff and students not contacted by the health unit can continue to attend school as usual.
All students and staff are asked to use the Government of Ontario’s school screening tool daily before attending school, which is expected to become mandatory soon.
The Northwestern Health Unit says there are currently 8 active cases of COVID-19 in the Kenora area, 7 in the Dryden / Red Lake region, 4 in Sioux Lookout and 2 in the Rainy River district. They've reported 263 cases including 7 probables, along with 1 death, since March, 2020.
All residents are asked to assume COVID-19 is spreading within your community, and to stay home, get tested and self-isolate, then remain in isolation until your test results are known, if you're feeling unwell.
