A COVID-19 outbreak at Kenora’s Pinecrest has forced restrictions to return at the long-term care facility.

The outbreak was reported in Unit 2 with 2 residents testing positive for the illness on May 18. By May 23, the outbreak is reported to have grown to 13 residents testing positive.

Assistant Administrator with District of Kenora Homes and Community Support Services, Michelle Spencer, says activities will continue within the Unit but visitor restrictions have been implemented.

Restrictions include:

– residents are being asked to eat within their room,
– one essential caregiver for positive residents,
– two essential caregivers for remaining residents,
– no designated caregiver under the age of 18,
– essential caregivers seeing positive residents must wear mask/eye shield,
– if providing direct care, essential caregivers are required to wear full PPE,
– When possible, visits should remain in the resident’s room,

This is the second reported COVID-19 outbreak for Pinecrest in 2023, after an outbreak in January. The home announced six COVID-19 outbreaks throughout 2022.

All visitors are reminded that if you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with someone who is unwell, please refrain from visiting the home or any of its residents.
