You should have your T4 by now and almost time to find out if a refund is coming your way.

Paul Noel Murphy is a spokesperson for the Canada Revenue Agency and says it’s better to get started early.

“We are encouraging people to file as soon as possible, early on, for a number of reasons,” states Murphy.

“We want to make sure you don’t miss out on any benefits and credits.  That there are no interruptions.  In particular there is the Climate Action Incentive payment, commonly people refer to the Carbon Tax rebate.”

Murphy adds there are a number of new programs people can apply for, if they meet the income threshold.

“The Canada Dental Benefit for parents with income under $90,000.  If they have children under the age of 12, they are able to go online to apply for a rebate from the government for that.  There is also a one top up for the Canada Housing Benefit worth $500 for renters.”

Murphy says because April 30th falls on a Sunday this year, the deadline to file your taxes is May 1st.
