Darth Vader coming to Thundercon

A Sith lord will be coming to Thunder Bay this fall, as Thundercon announces its latest guest, C. Andrew Nelson, on a well timed “Star Wars Day”.

Nelson has portrayed Darth Vader in various Star Wars projects since 1994, including an appearance in the remastered version of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

“He’s 6’5” and was working in the SFX Dept at Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic,” says agent Matthew Rose of Star Booking Management. “So, when they asked him to put on the Vader suit for Lucas’ new footage, it actually had David Prowse’s name in it. He wore the suit.”

However that isn’t his only credit within the Star Wars universe, he has also done voice and design work for a number of video game projects for LucasArts and later joined Industrial Light and Magic as a visual effects artist.

His credits there include Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, Jurassic Park III, Galaxy Quest and The Perfect Storm.

“He’s considered a ‘triple threat’ in the industry,” says Guest lead Toller Madsen. “Being able to wear so many creative hats and able to jump in to so many roles.”

Nelson says he is looking forward to appearing at Thundercon on September 9th and 10th, and in addition to meeting attendees, has something of a sweet tooth.

“We shall arrive in Canada for ThunderCon,” says Nelson as Vader. “But demand dark chocolate cookies, as we are on the dark side.”

Other guests announced so far include GI Joe comic creator Larry Hama and Degrassi’s Pat Mastroianni and Stacie Mistysyn.
