The Kenora U18 AAA Thistles will be looking to pick up some much-needed points this weekend as they will play their final three games of 2021.

It all starts Friday night as they travel to Winnipeg to battle the second place Wild, before hosting the Parkland Rangers for a pair of games Saturday and Sunday. Head coach Scott Parsons wants them to use the momentum from their win last weekend and use it against the Wild.

“Against a top, top team like the Wild, we’re really going to need to bring our A-game and 100 per cent effort for the full 60 minutes.”

Tonight’s game will be at 7 p.m. at the Canadian Tire Rink in Winnipeg. On Saturday the game start is 7:30 p.m., while Sunday’s afternoon affair is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Kenora Rec Centre.

The Boys Bronco Hockey team took on the Saint Thomas Aquinas Saints last night at the Kenora Rec Centre. The Broncos came away with the win, winning 7-0. Their next NorWossa league game is January 12 when the Red Lake Rams come to town.

The Broncos played host to the TA Saints yesterday in exhibition court sports action. On the basketball court, the Junior Boys beat the Saints 45-38 while the Senior Boys lost by a score of 45 to 36. In volleyball action both the senior and junior girls lost by identical 3 sets to 0 scores vs the Saints.

There are six games around the NHL tonight but only one of them features a Canadian team. The Winnipeg Jets welcome Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Ovechkin is second in the N-H-L scoring race with 21 goals, two behind Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers.

Kyle Connor’s leading the Jets with 18 goals in 28 games, 4 up on Pierre Luc Dubois. Captain Blake Wheeler only has one goal in an injury-riddled season.

The Jets have announced some shocking news, revealing that Paul Maurice has resigned as head coach effective immediately. Dave Lowry will take over head coaching duties on an interim basis.
