It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Alexander Titley. He was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, son-in-law, brother, uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle and friend.
He passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 at the St. Boniface Hospital with family by his side.
He is mourned by his daughters Jackie (Doug) Neufeld, Sherry Rishchynski, grandchildren Amanda (Jordan), Robert, Sarah (Curtis), Patrick (Taylor), Gabriel, and Rebecca, great grandchildren Leighton, Caleb, Austin, and Olivia, mother-in-law Marion, his sisters Gwen and Susan, brothers-in-law Lloyd, Larry and Lasse, sisters-in-law Deana and Peggy (Dave), half brothers Ed (Maria) and Jim (Helen), step sister Gail. Ed also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews as well as many other extended family and friends and church family.
Ed is predeceased by his loving wife Marie, parents Ada and Jim, father-in-law Grant, sisters Florence, Mary-Ellen and husband Don, Gerry, Shirley and husband Charles, Carol, brothers-in-law Gary, Brian and Nick, sister-in-law Lynn, nephews Eddie, Jimmy, Donny and Ralph, step sister Joyce and husband Otto, step brothers George and Danny.
Edward was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 21, 1943. His family moved to Kenora when he was quite young. Living in a house with 7 sisters kept him busy doing outside chores but he found time to play hockey where his bride-to-be spotted him on the ice playing hockey with her brother. After meeting up at a few at the teen dances at the Legion he married Marie, the love of his life and life-time dance partner, on September 23, 1961 and was again shortly afterwards surrounded by all girls when together they had 2 baby girls. Ed worked a few short term jobs like a porter and repair man at the Kenricia Hotel and at the flour mill but spent most of his working career at the Pulp and Paper Mill in Kenora where he worked for 32 years throughout the mill. He retired from the mill in 1999 as an Operating Engineer on the cranes and the switcher. He was happy to be able to spend more time with his wife and travel to see the grandkids.
Ed’s pride and joy was his family and he tried to keep in touch with friends as much as possible. Ed and Marie opened their home to family to stay many times. He loved it when the kids came to visit and played his Papa role with great delight. You could often catch him sitting in background just smiling at all the hustle and bustle going on inside the house and when he visited out west.
Ed was a giving man. He donated blood regularly and, over the years, was able to donate over 100 times before he was no longer able to give blood. He supported many charities and was an avid supporter of the Dragon Tamers and the CNIB. A giver to the bitter end, despite his blindness he was blessed to be able to donate his eyes.
A special thanks is given to his great-niece Crystal (Dave) and good friend Debbie who both helped tremendously in supporting him to live independently. Ed could often be seen walking to and from and around town but he was grateful to friends George and Bobby and his Church family for driving him when he needed a ride or just getting out for a drive around.
Thanks and appreciation is given to the Doctors and Nursing staff on the cardiac care unit of the Asper Institute at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg for their excellent care.
We invite family and friends to attend a Celebration of Life Service for Ed at the Knox United Church to be held Sunday, September 17th, 2023, at 3:00 pm.
There will be a memory book available for people to sign, write a special memory or add a picture too if you would like. In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to CNIB or the Dragon Tamers.
