The Municipality of Machin Volunteer Fire and First Response is getting a grant from Enbridge Gas.

A spokesperson for the company Bill Taylor says $5,000 will help the fire department purchase smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

“We raise about $250,000 each year,” says Taylor.

“We’ve been involved in that for 11 years now and we split that among 50 departments through the Province of Ontario.”

Taylor says this is part of Project Zero, and the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors will be donated to homes in the community.

“It’s a great program.  We believe in supporting the customers that we serve gas within the communities and safety is a core value of Enbridge.”

Taylor says Enbridge has two grants available for fire departments.

The other is Project Assist, which the Kenora Fire and Emergency Department qualified for.
