The Lake of the Woods Hospital Foundation is just a few thousand dollars away from their $145,000 goal, to support Kenora’s hospital and its patients in the fight against COVID-19.

“The response for the COVID-19 emergency fund has been fantastic,” said the foundation’s Executive Director, Jess Rheault. “We’re actually just a few thousand dollars away from our goal.”

The foundation announced their COVID-19 fundraising efforts in April, to bring in two Life Support Ventilators and eight more hospital beds for patients, which were all identified as vital needs as hospital staff prepared for the first wave of COVID-19.

Now, ahead of the potential second wave of the virus, Rheault says the foundation’s fundraising efforts have been able to purchase all of the necessary equipment, and the last bit of fundraising still needed will pay off the remainder of the costs.

“The hospital is prepared. The equipment is here, and we’re just focusing on raising that last few thousand dollars to complete our commitment to purchase that last ventilator for the hospital,” added Rheault.

The ventilators each cost $42,500. The LOTW hospital was also able to borrow two ventilators from ORNGE to support patients and staff.
