Fire Department looking for more paid for call firefighters

Wanted: a few good men and women.

The Kenora Fire and Emergency Services Department is holding an open house tonight (Tuesday) for anyone interested.

Fire Chief Dave Pratt says there are only a couple of requirements that have to be met.

“18 years and older…obviously the closer you live to the fire station you’ll receive preference,” states Pratt.

“But we are hoping we get lots of men and women that are interested that are community members, that want to participate and help the community.”

Pratt adds that there is some training involved.

“It probably takes upwards to 150 hours to be certified, so there is a standard that we are legislated to achieve and we do everything we can to have all of our staff trained to that standard so they can perform the level of service to  that standard.”

The open house will take place at 6:30 at the Fire Station on Barsky’s Hill, across from the Transfer Station.
