Fire hazard jumps to high

The cool damp weather which kept much of the region’s forest fire hazard in the low to moderate range is gone.

Now warm dry weather has sent the all of the Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay Districts into the high range, with a tight circle of extreme hazard in the City of Thunder Bay and Neebing area.

There have been 17 fires in the region so far this season.

Currently there are two active fires in the region, Sioux Lookout 3 discovered Monday evening listed as not under control at 25 hectares.

Meanwhile over the weekend, Thunder Bay 2 fired up west of Armstrong, listed at 6 hectares and also not under control.
