A number of sponsors are thanking local healthcare workers today in true Northwestern Ontario style – with fishing!
“The last two years have been tough on everybody, especially our healthcare workers, what they went through. We thought we’d show our appreciation by taking them fishing. They’re great people and the community needs them,” says organizer and well-known local fishing guide John Monteith.
Fishing with our Frontline Healthcare Workers invited the community to nominate a Kenora healthcare worker for a day of guided fishing on Lake of the Woods, including a shore lunch. The nominations poured into KenoraOnline prior to today’s event.
“Plans for this event started in January. We reached out to a lot of our corporate sponsors in the community who were so overwhelmingly supportive of this event. I can’t thank them enough. On top of that, the prizes we were given by our sponsors are just unbelievable” says adds Monteith
Monteith organized 12 guides to bring the healthcare workers out on Lake of the Woods for the day including Kenora’s Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson.
“For the last 20 years, John’s been the top guide around the lake and around town. He’s given us all a lot of work over the years. So when he asked us to guide for the event, it was automatic. And for the frontline healthcare workers obviously automatic,” says Gustafson.
