Treaty 3 is asking members to avoid social gatherings and non-essential travel. Grand Chief Francis Kavanaugh notes many First Nation communities have added lockdowns, in an effort to protect members from the coronavirus.

“We have done well throughout the pandemic, and I am very proud of our people for keeping our communities safe by obeying social distancing and their community rules,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh in a prepared statement. “But we all have to slow things down again to ensure we do not lose anyone to this terrible virus.”

With a spike in cases of COVID-19 in the area in recent days, Kavanaugh is encouraging everyone to follow social distancing measures. Public health officials -- and Ontario Premier Doug Ford -- have also been asking residents to avoid non-essential travel across the Ontario-Manitoba border.
