With a renewed push on tourism, Kenora merchants are again working with council, in an effort to create new parking spots downtown for visitors. Head of Kenora's Harbourtown Centre, Ralph Page says he thinks its time that they start to look to open up parking spots.

"Just given that we're all about trying to grow Kenora's economy and encourage visitors to come and spend money here it makes sense I think for us to start looking at alternate places for employees to perhaps park," he said

He adds other cities offer discounted or even free parking spots located only minutes from their downtown core.

"Perhaps an alternative might be to provide reduce rate parking that might be somewhere within walking distance."

For years, planning committees have been working to make the city's revitalized downtown more welcoming to visitors, and city hall has agreed to look further into the issue.
