October 1, 1933 – March 21, 2023

Harriette Anne MacKenzie (nee Hickey) aged 89 years, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born and raised in Keewatin, Ontario with her 4 sisters.

She met and married Ivor MacKenzie and raised 5 children.  Our mother (Ma) was a stay at home Mom until we were old enough, and she decided to go back to school.  She took the required courses and became an RNA for which she was so proud of.  She spent the majority of her career working in the maternity ward.  There was more than a few babies that she delivered or helped deliver while waiting for the Doctor to arrive.  She also made many lasting relationships with staff and patients.

Ma and Dad retired to Storm Bay, where they spent many good times fishing, gardening and especially hosting visits from their children and grandchildren, as they got older they bought and renovated a house on Laurenson’s Creek.  After Dad’s passing, Ma went to live with her daughter Kim and her husband Kelly in Saskatchewan.  As her Alzheimer’s progressed she decided it was ok to move to a Long term care home.

Ma was predeceased by her parents Harry and Ann Hickey, sisters Geraldine, Doreen, Wendy, her husband Ivor and son Alan.

She is survived by her sister Donna, her children Jim (Joanne), John (Tracy), Kim (Kelly) and Bob (Fran).  Her grandchildren Tim, Steven, Adam, Katie, Joelle, Kevin, Alex, Sarah, Matt, Andrew and Mike.  She will be greatly missed be her special friend Jo-Ann MacKenzie, 3 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews Don, Pam, Penny, Jack, Mark, Barb, Mike, Loretta and David.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at the Moose Lodge in Carlyle, Saskatchewan for the wonderful care and compassion they showed our mother.

At Harriette’s request, there will be a private graveside service held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
