Health experts say the pandemic may soon overwhelm the province's health care system, leading to more deaths.

"More than half of our intensive care units in Ontario are full or only have one or two beds left. 40 per cent of our long-term care homes are in outbreak. The pandemic will have serious consequences for our health, in every region of Ontario," said Dr. Steini Brown, who is the co-chair for the province's COVID-19 science table.

Brown added a new variant coming into the province spreads more easily, so it's become more important than before to work together to prevent the spread. Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to address the situation during his briefing set for this afternoon.
