With a surge of cases in the district, Dr. Kit Young Hoon at the Northwestern Health Unit explains why they can't release more precise information, when it comes to the location of newly-reported cases.

"After reviewing the legislation and guidance from the information and privacy commissioner of Ontario, discussing the issue with a lawyer and reviewing the practice of other health local units, we determined the cases had to be announced for the four regions in the catchment area of the northwestern health unit and not at a smaller geographic level," she said.

If the name of the municipality or First Nation was released -- along with the information released by the province -- Young Hoon said it would be too easy for residents to match the information and make an identification.
