Dr. Kit Young Hoon at the health unit says they're ready to go.

"We are expecting more doses to come to our region at some point, so that we can immunize long-term care homes and elder care facilities in First Nation communities," she said, during Friday's media briefing.

Vaccinations started in the district last week, after the first shipment of doses arrived in Kenora.

Young Hoon added the health unit and its community partners would be able to meet Friday's deadline for having all long-term care residents vaccinated, as long as they received enough doses in time.

The province pledged to have long-term care residents vaccinated by Feb. 5, but there have been delays in shipments announced by manufacturers since the announcement.
