Heidi “Shaughn” McKelvie
September 6, 1948 – May 1, 2023
With a heavy heart I announce the passing of Shaughn McKelvie on May 1, 2023 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, ON. Shaughn was the only child of Tom and Edna McKelvie. She grew up in Keewatin, attending Keewatin Public School, then Beaver Brae Secondary School, before completing her studies at Success Business College in Winnipeg. A thirty-year career operating the Keewatin IGA store with her mom and dad then followed until 1993.
Shaughn was predeceased by her grandparents Walter and Dorothy Hodkinson and Jim and Janet McKelvie; her beloved parents, Edna (1999) and Tom (2004); her Aunt Jessie and Uncle John Laliberte, as well as her cousin Kevin Laliberte.
Shaughn will be dearly missed by her loving husband Wayne Leduc, cousins Noel, Denis, David, and Tommy Laliberte and their families, as well as her cousin Cathy Foster, her cousin Joyce Ratcliffe and family members in England, my (Wayne’s) family, and many close friends.
Shaughn had a keen mind for details, and a special touch when it came to furnishing or decorating. She appreciated both the big and little moments in life. Shaughn loved to travel, take in concerts, and was a very talented cook who embraced every opportunity to host get togethers with family and friends.
Gardening was something else that Shaughn enjoyed; she always had a beautiful display of potted plants and flowers in the summer months. Growing up there was always a pet collie or fox terrier running about. In later years, Shaughn fell in love with the Kerry Blue Terrier breed. (Doolie, Rylie, and Ryan held the most special place in her heart.)
Shaughn was the love of my life and she had a huge heart. I was very fortunate to share my life with her for fifty-four years, I could make a list a mile long of the thank you’s that I owe her. Shaughn, thank you for being my girl. Know that I will think about you daily and love you forever. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
At Shaughn’s request, there will be no service. Should you wish to honour her memory, a donation to a charity of your choosing would be greatly appreciated.
