High school hockey finals start tonight

The finals in NorWOSSA hockey open tonight.

The Fort France Muskies host Kenora’s Beaver Brae Broncos in the boys’ opener.

The puck will drop at the Ice for Kids Arena at 7:15 p.m.

The Muskies, who finished the regular season undefeated, advanced to the final with a sweep of the Dryden Eagles.

The Broncos finished third with a record of 3-2-2, upsetting the Sioux North Warriors in the playoffs to reach the final.

Game two of the best-of-three final will be played on Friday at the Kenora Rec. Centre with game three back in Fort Frances on Sunday.

In girls’ hockey, the final pits the Dryden Eagles with the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.

Game one takes place at the Dryden Arena at 3:30 p.m.

The Eagles finished the regular season in first with a 7-2 record, then swept the Warriors in the semi-final match.

The Saints were 4-2-2 in regular season play, advancing to the final with a sweep of the Muskies.

Game two will be played on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Kenora Rec. Centre.

Game three, if necessary, will be back at the Dryden Memorial Arena on Sunday.
