Hospital Opens New Suite In Diagnostic Imaging

By Staff Feb 14, 2023 | 9:42 AM

Lake of the Woods District Hospital has opened two new rooms in its diagnostic imaging department.

The hospital says the new units cost almost a million dollars.

A new fluoroscopy suite is now operational and offers x-ray capabilities as well.

It’s the only unit between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.

The hospital says it had to close its old fluoroscopy suite because it was obsolete and no longer met current standards.

The new LWDH Fluoroscopy Suite offers dual purposes: fluoroscopy and x-ray capabilities, unlike the older unit which was solely fluoroscopy.

Additionally, the hospital says the new machine has pediatric settings, meaning pediatric patients will be able to receive treatments in Kenora rather than having to travel to a children’s hospital.

It also supports swallowing studies which are of particular importance for speech-language pathology assessments, and for determining why patients are experiencing difficulties swallowing.

The other room is for echocardiography which provides visualization of how the heart is
functioning and performing.
