Several agencies and communities in northwestern Ontario are receiving funding from Hydro One.
Each gets $25,000 from the utility’s Energizing Life Community Fund.
It supports community-led projects that focus on improving mental and physical health.
The Regional Food Distribution Association in Thunder Bay is using its donation on a Food Literacy Program.
Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation, near Kenora, is upgrading a community roundhouse.
The Atikokan Public Library will use its money to create space for families to gather and learn new skills, share new ideas and make new friends.
Other regional benefactors include;
- George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation: Support from Hydro One will be used to replace all the computers at the Centre, which has been serving children and youth with physical, developmental, and social needs for over 60 years
- Lac des Milles Lacs First Nation: Support from Hydro One will go towards a Learn to Swim program, providing swimming lessons for all grades for one semester each school year
- Northwestern Ontario Metis Child and Family Services: For the YouPower program, which aims to foster healthy emotional and social development in youth across Canada
This marks the third year Hydro One has issued the funding.
