Ice rental rates are going up in Kenora. In accordance with the recovery rates set by city council the rates will be increasing over the next few years.

The rate changes will apply to all minor hockey programs including high school teams, and figure skating clubs. Councillor Dan Reynard explains.

"We'll see an increase of 5 per cent over the next two years. In the third year it'll increase three per cent. For non-resident rates we'll see an increase of five per cent over three years and in year four it'll increase 3.5 per cent," he said.

Reynard said the adult league is already at the ceiling that's been established by council. He added that the increase was brought before the user groups and no one voiced any concerns.

"Every year they have a user group meeting. It includes the adult groups, the two figure skating clubs, two minor hockey groups, high school teams, senior hockey and the midget program. That was the group who didn't voice any concerns towards the increase," he said.

The change applies to both the Keewatin Memorial Arena and the Thistle Arena at the Kenora Recreation Centre.
