Ignace mayor & deputy mayor to resign

By Adam Riley Apr 4, 2023 | 11:15 AM

The Mayor of Ignace says he and the deputy mayor will be resigning from council less than six months after being elected.

In a social media post-Monday afternoon, Bill Gascon states he and Al Zimmer have decided to resign due to what he says are “irresponsible behaviours of colleagues and administration”.

Adding they cannot work alongside “people who are ignoring their responsibility” to the community.

This comes following a press release issued by the township last week which claimed three councillors of the five-member council had to “step in” to protect the integrity and democratic rights of the community.

Acadia News reached out to the Township and Deputy Mayor Zimmer to confirm the resignations, but both parties declined to comment.

A special meeting of council is slated to take place virtually today at 4:30 p.m.
